Keystone Law employs Powwownow free conference calling

August 2008

Overview

Keystone Law is the UK’s fastest growing full-service commercial law firm, with a unique structure which allows it to have an experienced network of solicitors across the UK and provide a first rate legal service at a reasonable cost. It wanted a UK telephone conferencing service to enable its solicitors to communicate with other teams and clients based around the UK and internationally.

It chose Powwownow’s telephone conferencing service, based on a number of factors including ease of use, cost-effectiveness, quality of calls, professionalism and transparency. In particular, Powwownow benefits Keystone through the clarity of its billing, as each conference call participant only pays the cost of a national rate call, which means that Keystone’s clients know they will not get recharged expensive conference call set-up fees.

Situation

Established in 2002, Keystone Law (www.keystonelaw.co.uk) is the UK’s fastest growing full-service law firm. Headquartered in central London, it has a team of 65 experienced solicitors based across England and Wales.

Technology is at the forefront of its business, enabling it to operate in an innovative structure that cuts away most of the overheads normally associated with a top commercial law firm – large office, trainee solicitors and everything but the essential support staff. This means that it can provide a first rate legal service at a reasonable cost to clients.

Its solicitors are based around the country from their own satellite offices or at the clients’ offices with a range of technologies enabling them to provide a seamless service to their clients. In central London, there is a small office that handles the firm’s administration, meeting facilities and essential support.

A key technology consideration for Keystone was how to best to enable its teams to communicate efficiently. “As our solicitors work around the country they often need to hold conference calls to discuss client cases with multiple participants from other offices,” comments James Knight, Managing Partner at Keystone Law. “Therefore it was important that we found a cost effective service that would be reliable, professional and of high quality, for both ‘internal’ communication as well as externally with clients and partners based in the UK and internationally.”

Solution

Keystone opted to use the Powwownow service (www.powwownow.co.uk) when the service launched in the UK in 2004. Now Europe’s leading conference calling service, Powwownow offers customers low-cost audio conference calling facilities with the ethos of no booking, no billing and no fuss. Powwownow customers do not need to book a conference room and never receive an invoice. Callers into the conference call pay just the cost of an 0870 call – a national rate call at 6.7p per minute - which is automatically added to their bill.

“We use a range of backbone technologies to ensure that our teams can focus on delivering excellent legal counsel - the Powwownow service is one of those. For us and our clients, it offers financial benefits as well as saving time on travel and being better for the environment. Its voice quality on calls is top rate, works everytime and can be used to facilitate internal and external calls,” James said of the service.

“As a legal practice, transparency in our tracking and billing is paramount. With the Powwownow service, our clients pay the cost of a national rate call for dialling into conference calls which means that we do not need to recharge expensive conference call set-up costs, as we would have to with competitive services. This is something that we find our clients value immensely.”

Not just telephone conferencing - it’s Showtime for web conferencing

In latest news, Powwownow has just launched its new free ‘Showtime’ web conferencing service which enables easy sharing and presenting of documents/presentations via the web to one or many web conferencing participants.

James said: “I can see immediate opportunities about how we will use the Showtime service as it will enable our teams to share and review documents. It will be particularly useful for discussing complex issues with clients internationally.”
