PowwowNEWS - December Newsletter

December 2009

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Believe it or not, another three months have flown by and with the silly season upon us, things are as busy as ever. However, most recently Powwownow's focus has been directed at establishing ourselves as a telecommunications company in our own right plus pushing out 'Guerrilla Marketing' campaigns. Read all about our antics here and take a peek at powwownow.co.uk to keep up to date with all the latest news and coverage.

That is it from us for 2009, so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone at Powwownow.

Important number change and service enhancements

In August this year, Powwownow became a telecommunications company in our own right, an achievement we are very proud of. This now puts us alongside BT as the only other telecoms company that provide their own conference call service.

As part of the switch to our own technology we now need to implement a number change. Whilst a select group of users are already using the new number, all other Enhanced Access customers will be invited to make the switch in late January 2010.

It is important to note that during this transition all current and new UK and international Enhanced Access dial-in numbers will continue to work together.

The benefit of transferring all calls onto our own network is that it will allow us to better monitor, manage and resolve service issues plus offer more functionality. So as per your requests from our Customer Survey earlier in the year, we will be introducing free call recordings, a choice of on-hold music and a choice of voice prompt languages.

Stay tuned for more information in the New Year!

The Great Gorilla Run

Having a bit of fun with the term 'Guerrilla Marketing', back in September, Powwownow sponsored a runner in the Great Gorilla Run, a charity event which saw over 600 'Gorillas' take to the streets of London to raise money for endangered mountain gorillas.

The campaign was promoted with PR, Social Media and via posts on the Powwownow Blog in lead up to the main event. In true Powwownow style the blog posts intrigued readers by deliberately confusing the meaning of the words 'gorilla' and 'guerrilla' whilst hinting at the campaign idea. Check out the blog posts here.

The Powwownow branded gorilla ran 7kms at the main event and handed out hundreds of branded bananas, and it was all caught on camera. To see the day in action watch it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYhuHNKW1Zg.

Flypowwownow takes flight

Here at Powwownow, we don't mind a bit of honest competition. But recent advertising from the people at Flybe.com seemed a little less than truthful. So since Guerrilla Marketing was on our minds we took a little direct action with our own ad, published in the London Metro on 12th November.

British Airways then proceeded to give away 5,000 business class flights to SMEs (which, by the way, still cost the 'winners' hundreds of pounds in taxes and charges) to encourage face to face meetings so in response, Powwownow's newly created airline, Flypowwownow offered targeted SMEs 5,000 conference calls absolutely free!

Ok, so it may be a little cheeky of us taking the big boys head on but as long as airlines ignore their environmental responsibilities and promote flying to meetings as the best business alternative, Powwownow will continue to fly our own path.

Boardroom antics caught on CCTV

With Powwownow now providing millions of conference calls worldwide we figured that the meeting room must now be used for a host of different purposes besides meetings. You've probably already seen the Boardroom Golf and Fun Under the Table clips we've tracked down, so if you liked them you'll love these next two that we've come across in the CCTV archives.

Check out Boardroom Table Tennis and Boardroom Pool and see how Powwownow have been repurposing the meeting room since our inception in 2004.
