Women from the northwest are the most likely to kiss on greeting (29 per cent), with events organisers, creative and media types being the main offenders, according to recent research.

Free conference call provider Powwownow surveyed 2,000 UK business professionals to discover what the real appeal of ‘the meeting’ was.

Other than chocolate digestives (16 per cent) and time out of the office (nine per cent), 20 per cent revealed they relished the opportunity to flirt.

London advertising professionals came in second as 22 per cent confessed to air kissing at work, yet only six per cent would kiss on a night out.

Londoners clearly felt the air kiss was a professional obligation.

In the past 14 months Powwownow has conducted various surveys to reveal the working habits of SME employees.

The Dirty Habits Survey conducted in the final quarter of 2008 found that a whopping one in three men in SMEs had had a sexual thought about their work colleagues while in a meeting.

The current survey exposed some remarkable stats:

  • 29 per cent of women in Manchester and Liverpool kiss at a meeting
  • 20 per cent liked to flirt while in a meeting
  • No IT, finance, banking and insurance professionals kiss on greeting
  • Two per cent of civil service workers, accountants and surveyors kiss when meeting.

ICM surveyed 2,016 on behalf of Powwownow using an online survey.
