Tube Strike
I think I would say that this strike was a bit of a non event.
During this strike we were braced for a surge in volume, for example on the snow Monday in Febuary we had a volume increase of over 60%.
On this strike both days were completely normal for that day of the week – if anything on Thursday there was a slight drop in volume.
I suspect that the reason for this is that the strike was well telegraphed in advance (rather than the snow day being a bit of a shock), the effect was isolated to London and it was only a partial strike.
In fact for our internal purposes most people made it to the office and those that had had meetings in town rescheduled them rather than replaced them with conference calls.
Anyone else got any thoughts about why the strike was not dramatic?

The Office Dog
Posted by Andrew Pearce in Opinions on 9th June 2009
I am pleased to Introduce the office Dog, his Name is Buca (as in Sam) well maybe that gives away the Owners favorite late night tipple.
Buca or Mr B as he is also known is 11 months old and is a Portugese Water Dog, and before you ask he was he was purchased before Obama even dreamed of getting one. you can see Barack Obama portugese water dog Bo here.
Buca is a great addition to the office from bounding in first thing in the morning and greeting everyone of the staff, to raiding the waste bins looking for some left over food or the odd bit of plastic to chew!
Walking Buca around Windsor where I live and In Richmond where the office is based makes for interesting times as we are constantly stopped by American tourists to ask if Buca is a PWD, and then commenting that he is the same dog Obama has, to which i reply “but I got mine first.”

5 Years on!
Posted by Andrew Pearce in Opinions on 8th June 2009
5 years ago we launched Powwownow, being frustrated by the charges that standard conference call providers make, we decided to launch our own Free Conference Call Service,
What a long way we have come since the early days of hosting 2-3,000 minutes of conference calls in a day, and that was a good day!
5 years have flown by, and a lot has changed in that short period of time. Remember when you didn’t “poke” your friends! You told someone your opinion rather than blogging about it? Your home made Videos appeared on You’ve Been Framed not YouTube, and only birds Twittered!
What’s the hype with Facebook?
Being a Web Developer brings with it the responsibility of being up to date with the latest trends on the Internet. But I must confess that it was only 2 years ago that I gave into curiosity and signed up with Facebook. So what is the deal with Facebook? Why does it currently have 200 million active users worldwide and have to be banned at many places of work by employers?
For those with a Facebook account, you will know that the first step is to set up your profile and include the very important profile picture. This is made easy for you with a set of categories and predefined questions. Not at all difficult, as everyone is an expert on writing about themselves. And who doesn’t love the idea of knowing that other people will be reading all about them? So we fill in everything we can – including our favourite quote – because it is all critical in other people understanding who we are.
