If you are not one of the fortunate few to be seeing the football in South Africa, you can still have a safari of sorts in the concrete jungle of London. The Elephant parade has hit London and is showcasing a total of 258 painted elephants all around the capital from May to July 2010.
Powwownow staff set to the streets for this good cause and captured as many elephants as they could on camera. They managed to get an impressive 129 elephants so far! See our gallery on Flickr…
This was an initiative which started in Rotterdam 2007 where 50 elephants where showcased in an attempt to raise funds and awareness of the Asian elephant and prevent it’s looming extinction. Since then it has become an annual event spanning major cities across Europe. All the elephants will be auctioned off at Sotheby’s on 30th June as the Elephant Family charity attempt to raise as much money as possible. If you have missed out on this opportunity, you still have next year when the streets of Copenhagen will be flooded with these beautiful giants.
If you would like to get involved, there are petitions to sign and the opportunity to view all the elephants in one location both indoors and outdoors towards the end of June. Visit the Elephant Parade website for more information about this fund-raising activity and the London Elephant Parade website for more about the events in London.
PS: Helen (in Singapore) has made a “guest appearance” in one of the photos in the gallery. See if you can find her!

If I had known I was there, I would have stopped by. Such stunning designs! Really sad they are not hanging around!
