Work can be stressful and demands can sometimes be too much. So follow our five points below, that you can do right now, that will make you happier. And happy people are more productive people.
Exercise releases endorphins, endorphins make us happy. So if you’re feeling down or stressed, go for a walk around the office, or take the stairs rather than the lift or invest in a Swiss ball and exercise your core whilst you type. Release those endorphins and smile!
Fresh air and sunshine (time of year permitting in the UK!) can have a huge impact on your mood. So at lunchtime try and get out, even if it’s just for a walk around the office block. Getting some serotonin from the sun will improve your mood no end and the exercise will make you feel more alert in the afternoon.
Smiling itself can make us feel better, but it’s more effective when we back it up with positive thoughts. Feeling stressed, think of something positive to alleviate stress and improve positivity.
Helping others can make you feel happier by making you feel good for your actions. Make sure you balance this with just enough help, too much and you’ll impact your own work, being counter-intuitive by making you feel stressed.
Breathing and meditation is often touted as an important habit for improving focus, clarity and attention span, as well as helping to keep you calm. This can easily be done at your desk, just take a few minutes close your eyes, slow down and regulate your breathing; a few minutes should be enough to regain focus and remain calm.
